"We do not only grace your Occasions,we soothe your soul"_ Baker Bayo, Baker_Bayo's Cake House

*     Can we meet you?

My name is Gbadamosi Adebayo Sadiq. I am a Baker. And I'm a student of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko Ondo State, Nigeria.

*     For you, is Baking an hobby or a passion?

It depends on your definition of hobby or passion though. But for me, I believe every man has that stuff, that something that God has destined them to be very unique in. And I, in my own case, believe it is baking. Baking is fun for me. Sometimes, I do feel like I'm getting paid for just having fun. But you can call it a passion and an hobby altogether.

*     Do you have a professional name for your Baking Brand or you are yet to coin one? And how did you start as a baker?

Yes I do. It's Baker_Bayo's Cake House..
I started baking 5 years ago. The first time I tried baking a cake was in foods and nutrition class back then in secondary school when I was in SS3. After our practicals we had to bake for WAEC and then I baked three different types of cakes; (Sponge, plain and Queen's cake) and the result was awesome...Everybody loved it. Even the invigilator kept coming back to my side to check on my cake and when I took the rest home, I gave a part of it to my neighbours and they really loved it. Then my sister's birthday came up, and I made her a Cake. Her teachers were saying stuffs like "Adetoun your mom definitely ordered this cake, your bro could not have made it". Then I thought to myself, if people really like my cakes so much, why not turn it to money? So I started looking for places to learn the craft from. I found one but, It's a long story. I did not end up learning there. So, I gave up after I got admission into university. I wanted to focus majorly on my studies but the things "Akungba Igbeyin (The period towards exams when everyone turns broke in my school)" will do to you ehn!!! 🤣.So I decided to pick my craft up again in school. 100l second semester to be precise. And I started going online to learn stuffs myself. I started taking orders. It wasn't that easy though.

*     What is baking all about?

I think I see "Cake Making" in a broader perspective. It's not just about mixing and putting stuffs in a hot temperature to bake and then people gets to eat a lot of sugar. Nah!!! I think and I know that we Bakers have an important role to play in our society today. We don't only grace your occasions. Sometimes, we create the avenue for that inner peace to manifest itself over your whole body. We soothe your soul. We make you happy. We bring people together with love. A very romantic relationship starts with presenting your lover a cake for "Valentine day". Then on her birthday. And wait, who gets married without a Cake?💁🏻‍♂ We're just awesome☺☺. Plus, we make you want more☺☺☺.

*     What would you expect from your employees when you become the CEO of your Baking Brand now or in the nearest future?

I'll expect them to put their all into the work. Be diligent and be passionate about it.

*     What else do you do apart from baking?

I draw.. I'm an Artist.

*     What perception about baking do want to change in this modern day society that we live in?

Pls, people should stop thinking and saying that, "is not that you will just mix flower and butter and sugar together??" No!!! Baking has gone beyond that these days. You guys should please try to appreciate our work with good pay so that we will be able to put more resources into the profession. That is the only way that we will be able to compete with our colleagues abroad.

*     What is your advice for Fellow Bakers?

To my Bosses out there, I know you guys have been doing wonderfully well to take this profession to greater heights in our country. Pls, keep up the good work. Let's keep making them smile.

*     Where do you see yourself in the next five to ten years?

5-10 years...InshAllah(By God's Grace), I'll have my own cake house already in at least three states in Nigeria. In Ibadan, Abuja and Lagos and my brand will be known all over Nigeria for its uniqueness and quality.
