I am Bukayo Eyiomo Beauty. The CEO of Peachy Looks Concept. A graduate from the department of mass communication Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba, Ondo State . I am just a young girl who is passionate about making women look beautiful and peachy.
I had my primary school education at Cedec International School, Apapa, Lagos, while secondary school education was at Lagos State Model College, Ojo, Lagos.
* For you is makeup an hobby or a passion?
Make up is a combination of hobby and passion. I love doing makeup and I do it always.
* What is Peachy Looks Makeover all about and how did it start?
Peachy Looks Makeover is a subsidiary of Peachy Looks Concept. In Peachy Looks Makeover, we majorly do makeovers which include natural looks, nude looks, everyday looks, smokey looks, bridal looks, engagement looks, editorial looks and gele(head gear) tying.
As a young girl, I had always had this thing for make up. I'll always paint my face and the faces of my friends happily and voluntarily, I also remember giving faces on my book covers, newspaper and magazines makeovers. It got to a whole new level when I watched video clips of makeup tutorials on YouTube and I practised a lot with my personal makeup kit . I did a lot of reading about makeup online both foreign and local articles.
After doing makeup for some acquaintances at school, I got lots of commendation which motivated me to be more dedicated . The major motivation was when I got an offer to do makeup at a friend's sister's wedding and I accepted it. The wedding day arrived, I left home as early as 5am because of Lagos traffic, on getting there with my bag not BOX, the people doubted my competence and some left to nearby studio to get their makeover done. I was quite discouraged then a lady came in and asked if I was the make up artist and I responded positively. She asked for my tools, I opened my bag then she said to the lady besides her, "you never can tell,have seen so called makeup artists with boxes who can't do the proper job". I assured her and I gave her a face beat and others were perplexed by it. So they started queuing up. A particular middle aged woman waited patiently and she had hers last while doing hers she disclosed that she is really impressed with my works and her daughter is also a makeup artist but my work was better than her daughter's. She further encouraged me to get a Box and look professional, that first impression mattered. I took her advice and with the money I made from that day I got my box the following week with other relevant products required for professional makeup.
I went for further training for few weeks.
Then thoughts of branding of my services in the year August 2017 paved way for the name "Peachy Looks Makeover". Just as the name implies excellent. We give excellent makeovers.
* Then as a CEO,,what would u expect from your employees at Peachy Looks Makeover now or in the future?
As a passionate and dedicated CEO, I expect the same passion and dedication as well as commitment, industriousness,consistency, productivity and determination on the part of my employees.
Also they should have good human relations skills. That is, they should be able to speak in a friendly and persuasive manner creating a relaxing atmosphere for clients and potential clients.
The industry is growing each day and new styles and methods are introduced on a daily basis. In order not be left out, I'll employ them to be innovative because that's the only way they can be pace setters in the industry.
* What else do you do apart from Makeup?
Peachy Looks Concept is a combination of Peachy Looks Makeover and Peachy Looks Secret. Peachy Looks Secret majors in selling genuine cosmetic products which goes with my artistry . Residing in an environment where imitations and fake products are sold at the price of the genuine and getting the original is like searching for a needle in a haystack. Modelling is something I do asides from makeup.
* What perception about makeup do you want to change in this modern day society that we live in?
The perception that, "Every young girl in Nigeria is a makeup artist", "Why do you want to be a make up artist?" This is usually to discourage people who want to venture into the industry.
Let's look at it this way. It's the same with all other profession. I lost count on the actual population of graduates from the department of Mass Communication this year in Nigeria. You would agree the population is quite large but that should not discourage or make me discourage someone else applying for jamb and putting in for Mass Communication.
Competitions are everywhere. It is left for you to decide what you want to be and be the best in that field. Yes, the Competition is always going to be there that is why you always have to work harder and upgrade your skills in order to stand out . To those who are fond of discouraging people going into the makeup industry, "you also need a makeover".
* What is your advice for fellow Makeup artists?
The same advice I gave myself. It goes thus, "am just a young girl who is passionate about making women look beautiful, I try not to get carried away with all that's happening around me, I don't feel that without some certain tools (expensive products or equipment) I can't get the best out of my works..." Trust me you too can. The most important thing I do is that I work harder and keep working on myself and my skills. You too can do it. The sky is vast for every bird to fly.
Remembering no renowned makeup artist talking about the likes of House of Tara, BM pro, Oshewa Beauty, Frutty Looks and many more, didn't achieve it all in one day or a week but their consistency, hard work, creativity and determination earned them a Brand name. Don't be discouraged, rather, be determined not to relent in your hard work and put solid trust in Jehovah.
* Where do you see yourself in the next five to ten years?
For now am working towards owning a standard makeup studio. In five years time, I am aiming at becoming a cosmetologist. Then in 10 years time l, Peachy Looks Concept should be running a Cosmetics Line.
