These days, I hear speakers speak of virginity and I can’t
but shake my head. I am actually in support of preaching virginity especially
in the kind of society we have found ourselves but I think every preacher is
missing a tiny fact. Virginity is over emphasized and presented as something
that will last through out a marriage course. Parents and guardians often
emphasize that their children and acquaintances should keep their virginity
till marriage at the same time neglecting or better still omitting the virtue
aspect. Virginity without virtue is nonsense. What is virtue? Virtue in my own
words means good morals, ethics and behaviours. Why should a child that lacks
good behaviour be advised on keeping his or her virginity alone? Why should a
girl that doesn’t even know how to cook feel on top of the world because she is
a virgin? Some men don’t even know how to handle issues without involving their
friends yet they are proud that they are virgins. Today, you will see a lady
that can keep malice for Africa and is as dirty as anything call herself a
woman of virtue because she is a virgin. The truth is, the fact that you are a
virgin doesn’t make you virtuous. You have to possess good morals alongside
your virginity. If you don’t have good habits, it is either you learn or start
feeling sorry for yourself. Do not be happy that you are a virgin at all or
that you were able to keep your virginity till marriage because after that wedding
night, you will have nothing more to offer in that marriage.
